![]() It seemed OK even if the shift mechanism cannot hold a candle to my smoothly shifting Nikon 28PC. ![]() I have read lots of contrasting reviews concerning this lens, so I wanted to hold it in my hands to see how it is. Additionally, it has a rounded 9-blade diaphragm for smooth out-of-focus areas. 1 Finally my second hand camera dealer had a Samyang24mm f/3.5 Tilt-Shift for sale. Nikon Super Integrated Coating (SIC) offers outstanding color performance and substantially reduced ghosting and flare and three aspherical elements help control distortion and aberrations. Three ED glass elements provide improved sharpness and color, while Nikon’s Nano Crystal Coat virtually eliminates internal reflections for greater image quality. So if what you want is a real tilted focal plane, forget the LensBaby. Shift When a cameras sensor is not parallel to the subject being photographed, there is a distortion of perspective, with lines converging toward the vanishing point, as seen in the image below. ![]() There is an FAQ on the LensBaby web site that explains this quite clearly. A tilt-shift lens can, in fact, perform two distinct tasks: the tilt and the shift. It gives you a single point of focus surrounded by a radial blur, not a tilted focal plane. The mount can also rotate 90° left and right for setting which axis to have the shift and tilt set to. The LensBaby is not a tilt lens, at least not in the same sense as the Nikon or Canon tilt/shift lenses. It features ☘.5° of tilt along with ☑1.5mm of shift, and each can be used either by itself or in combination with the other. Using tilt and shift correction will help obtain a natural-looking perspective by eliminating distortion such as keystoning that can appear in architectural images. The Nikon PC-E NIKKOR 24mm f/3.5D ED Tilt-Shift Lens is an ultra-wide lens with special “Perspective Control” tilt and shift functions, making it ideal for architectural and nature photography. If you are serious about tilt-shift photography, consider the Rokinon TSL24M-S.
